I recently got into making sourdough recipes – pancakes, cinnamon rolls… and tonight, fresh-baked bread. 

I find making bread from scratch such a rewarding process.  It takes several hours for all of the periods of rising, and at least 30 minutes of intense physical labor.  Women must have been super buff before the invention of bread machines. 

I made split-pea soup to go along with my fresh loaf of bread and it was one of the most exquisite meals I’ve had for awhile because of the hours of preparation that went into it.  It’s now 10pm and I just finished eating, but the delayed dinner was well worth the wait.  Warm, soft bread with a bowl of hot soup is just what a cold, crystal clear night calls for.
